Creation Care

Memorial UMC is a member of One Home One Future, a multi-faith campaign to strengthen vitality, relevance, and community connection across generations in local congregations nationwide. We are part of a visible effort to invite creation care and climate action, no matter if you are just getting started or already engaging.

Initiatives take on site:
  • Recycling in every room: single stream recycling
  • Plastic Bags/Film, Styrofoam and Battery collection for the local recycling center
  • Refillable water bottle station
  • LED lightbulbs
  • "Turn Off Lights" and "Please Close Door" signs to save energy.
  • Increasing use of real cups and utensils instead of single-use items
  • Using up what we have instead of buying new (e.g. hospitality items and furniture)
  • Xeriscaping with more to come. Xeriscaping, as defined by National Geographic, is the practice of designing landscapes to reduce or eliminate the need for irrigation.
  • We'll be updating our labyrinth to become a Sacred Grounds or Certified Wildlife Habitat in 2024.
  • Composting is in discussion for the campus.
